  1. Osmosis is the movement of solvent (liquid) 
  2. through a semipermeable membrane separating 
  3. solutions of different concentrations. The 
  4. solvent passes from a less concentrated 
  5. solution to a more concentrated solution 
  6. until the two concentrations are equal. 
  7. Applying external pressure to the solution on 
  8. the more concentrated side arrests osmosis, 
  9. and is a measure of the osmotic pressure of 
  10. the solution.
